All about Pam
I was born, raised and still live in the same valley that my parents were raised in on Vancouver Island. (off the west coast of British Columbia).
I am now proudly raising my own family here.
I love the outdoors, like all kinds of weather and believe every day of every season has something to offer everyone of us. We just need stop to notice it. There is beauty and life to be seen in almost everything on this planet.
My favourite thing to do, besides taking photos, is camping with friends and family. Being outside and away from the strains of every day life is the way I relax and have fun.
I am so fortunate to live in a land with such diversity. I am surrounded by all kinds of beauty in both people and landscapes on Vancouver Island.
Everything from beautiful beaches to rainforest, from city to no-mans land, from wide open fields to mountains., rivers, lakes and streams.
When I first started photography my kids were young, now grown into young adults. I work full time so really my photography business is on the side.....for now.
I am a self taught photographer. I have never taken a course on photography, but would like to someday. In the past I have shot in film, however today the world is digital and I am loving what I see through my lens.
I belong to an international photography challenge called 52Frames. Every week they submit a challenge. I must take the image and submit it in that week. It is challenging and the learning is immense. The community is the most uplifting community I have ever experienced. I have gained so much from the full experience and even made friends along the way.
Flutterby is a place where all kinds of people can feel safe. I am an advocate and ally to the LGBTQ+ community, as well to those who have different abilities in this world. I have photographed families, couples, wedding, portraits (for business use as well because it's just time to have your portrait done), children are incredibly fun to shoot, and I have sold some art pieces and stock photography too.
2010 I was published for the first time. I couldn’t be more thrilled !!!! Cowichan Valley Travel Planner purchased 11 of my stock photos for their 2010 magazine. You can pick one up at any tourist info stand anywhere in the world.
2009 was a good year to me. I won 2nd place (out of 475) in Landscape in a competition called biodiversity from Canadian Wildlife Federation. My photo was published in their magazine. It was put on display in Montreal at the Biosphere Dome for 10 mo. I was interviewed. My photo and bio was placed on a large lit panel in an outdoor art gallery. At the end of the 10 mo. show, I received a call to see if I would agree to have my photo placed in the montreal airport for another 10 mo. showing. I WAS THRILLED! (look for the photo of it on display in my site, it is of the Chemainus river in the fall).
I love to photograph in the outdoors. I really like natural light. I do not have a studio to work in just an office with a small work space. My studio is actually very large, when you think of it as the world.
